New Year, New Job: The Careers of Homer Simpson

Homer Simpson is often depicted as being lazy, incompetent and easily enraged at the slightest provocation. Despite all this, he often (enragingly) finds himself with amazing career opportunities. This week we look at some of Homer's greatest job opportunities!

Astronaut Homer- yes, unbelievably, Homer actually made it to outer space. Homer's bizarre quest for Tang Powdered Drink leads to him getting the opportunity of a lifetime. NASA was looking for an everyday guy who could help them increase their television ratings. Homer and Barney competed for the position, won by Homer by default. Homer gets to outer space and accidentally saves the day, only to become overlooked in favor of an inanimate carbon rod.

Fun Facts Week: Chuck Jones finds a Sponsor

When famed animator Chuck Jones was able to convince his old friend Dr. Seuss to let him make an animated version of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas, he thought the hardest part of the project was over. However, he now needed to find a sponsor willing to put up the sizeable funding needed to complete the project. Strangely enough, he couldn't get any toy, candy or snack company to sign onto the project.

The company that saved the day was The Commercial Banking Foundation. A strange decision for a show that speaks out against materialism.
